Fall of Man Depicted in Atwoods Backdrop Addresses Cowboy Essay
Fall of Man Depicted in Atwood's Backdrop Addresses Cowboy The sexual legislative issues of the man-lady relationship, or all the more explicitly the sexual abuse of ladies by men, is an unmistakable worry in Margaret Atwood's Scenery Addresses Cowboy. Although the oppressor-as-male topic is in no way, shape or form a unique wellspring of lovely motivation, Atwood's differentiation is that she sees the dangerous man-lady relationship as an analogy for, side effect and image of, greater things. From the vantage-purpose of female cognizance, Margaret Atwood empahsizes the scenery as being the lady, yet additionally the land and the otherworldly existence of the universe; the rancher is both a man twisted on close to home increase (conceivably an American dependent on Atwood's solid enemy of American notions in her novel, Surfacing) and an emissary of innovative advancement. The structure of the sonnet legitimately bolsters the topic of contention and government in that it is obviously isolated into two segments or camps. The initial four verses offer a depiction of you, the honorable and courageous cowhand who brutalizes existence without making new life. The point of view moves then from predator to prey in the last five verses as I, introduced as deceived lady and misused nature, addresses her opponent. The tone or temperament of Setting Addresses Cowboy likewise experiences a change after the initial four verses when the peruser enters the lamentable, dreary experience of one who is following through on the cost of butcher and defilement. At this point in the sonnet, it appears to be worthless to consider whether the cost ought to be paid and the allegorical man-lady pressure remains distrubingly uncertain. As far as structure, Setting Addresses Cowboy is written in open (organization... ...esecrate, the insistently positioned expression of the climactic line in Background Addresses Cowboy, underscores again the setting as being the lady, yet in addition the land and the profound existence of the universe. As an emissary of innovative advancement, man has submitted a sacreligious demonstration against nature and humankind and his fall typifies the fall of the otherworldly, the recorded and the reasonable. In Margaret Atwood's sonnet, at that point, the pained man-lady relationship is side effect and image of a more prominent estrangement inside humankind. Man's over a wide span of time curelties to human, regular and profound life are expressesed metaphoricall regarding a cowpoke winning the West on a film set, against a background supporting his gallantry. Background Addresses Cowboy offers a dream that is both barren and cognizant extending yet it doesn't present answers.

Carving Leaders from the Warped Wood of Humanity Essay - 34
Cutting Leaders from the Warped Wood of Humanity - Essay Example An announcement made by the creator that was intriguing with respect to this conversation was, ââ¬Å"We regard pioneers who put the enthusiasm of the adherents first, however most pioneers donââ¬â¢t take care of doing that all the time, nor do most conditions expect them to ascertain their enthusiasm for connection to the enthusiasm of their followersâ⬠(Ciulla, 2001). I concur with the creator that chiefs need to consider numerous elements and factors in their dynamic the procedure that has nothing to do with charitableness. The enthusiasm of the clients of an organization and the network are critical to consider, however directors should expand investors riches. For that to happen organizations need to enhance the utilization of their monetary assets to improve the deals and benefits of the organization. My sincere belief with respect to the subject of whether authority and benevolence are connected ideas contrasts from the assessment of Joanne Ciulla. I feel that philanthropy can upgrade the view of an organization, in this manner the methodology can be valuable for the gainfulness of the organization. Philanthropy is a success win recommendation for all the gatherings in question. An organization that has a genuine feeling of the significance of morals will put forth a coordinated attempt to help intrigue bunches deprived through unselfishness endeavors. Charitableness can improve the open picture of an enterprise. The utilization of charitableness thinks about well the initiative capacities of an administrator. Selflessness ought not be pictured as an expense; rather, it ought to be seen as a good and socially capable approach to offer back to the network that constructs the brand estimation of an organization. In spite of my distinction of feeling with the creator concerning the connection between these two ideas, I concur with the creator in that it is conceivable to be morally dependable without utilizing philanthropy. There are bunches of moral choices that chiefs must make that don't include philanthropy.

Passions
Passions Edit: Aww, shoot! I wrote you all this blog post last night, before I left the house, and then forgot to publish it. Well, here it is, a year late. And now, to hit the road for Vermont. Hope this helps with those last-minute applications, though. Hola! The title and mini-description attached to this post may have, despite my best efforts, given some of you a clue as to what this post will be about. Anybody who read my last post might also know, as I gave away some spoilers. Brought to you just in time for 2010 (think about it the writing of this post spanned almost TWO YEARS. I should get a raise for that), its Cams thoughts on the college essay process! Huzzah! Three Saturdays ago, I was walking through a far-too-familiar part of campus with my friend Kevin. (Coincidentally, my brother is also named Kevin. Relevant to you? Nope, but you read it anyways. Congratulations, youre procrastinating. Stop procrastinating and skip ahead to the college-relevant material, you slacker.) (Did the previous run-on aside cause you to forget what I was talking about? Good! Some mental exercise for you and literary laziness for me.) Because this year Kevin, a friend from my high school, is like many of you e.g. prefrosh material we were talking about the college essay process. For many people at my school, and many other people I knew, the college essay process was Not Fun. I can certainly agree with that when looking at the volume of work most high school seniors get themselves into e.g. the paperwork starts to ascend its usual two dimensions and acquire volume, because, well, theres a lot of it. Or, the electronic bits storing your apps start to acquire volume, but . hey, stop questioning my word usage. The other reason many people found the college essay to be Not Fun, though, and the reason I want to waste your time with here, was that they hated writing about themselves. Kevin and I, walking somewhere on campus, came to perhaps a far-too-hasty conclusion: thats stupid. We stopped (conversationally, that is), realized that might be not quite what we meant, and tried to describe what we actually meant. See, heres the thing the revolutionary bit what those people dont know is that the college essay should be *fun*. (eww, I sound like a guidance counselor I promise, Im still only one year past all yalls) (Yep, Im from Massachusetts, and I say that sometimes, mostly for kicks. People get angry at me for it) The college essay is a lot of work, but the work should not be bad; the reason behind that is fairly simple. You get to write about yourself! Youre not being self-centered, youre not facing a yawning audience; youre trying to show people the best parts about you! Now, granted, some people with low self-esteem might not like writing about themselves, but heres the cool bit: theyre not asking you to write about your faults! They want the best of you. The college essay is the time to shamelessly (but truthfully start lying and youll run into trouble, so please please please dont do it?) put your best foot forward and talk about you, the bits of you that you like most and that defin e you. That should be fun. If theres something about you that you wouldnt enjoy sharing with other people, then perhaps you shouldnt put it on your college application think first for a second about why you dont enjoy it. Its more than that, though; its not just writing about yourself. Its writing about your passions, your hobbies, your interests and your real drive; give them the reason you get up in the morning, give them the reason you stay up late, and give them the reason you like being you! Or if theres something in your life you want to change, give them that! The college essay, at least for most prompts (disclaimer: I havent looked at any, this year, including MITs _), is fairly flexible, because its designed to let you shine through, not just an essay. And are you ready for the best part? No matter what you write, your audience has to read it!* They get paid to read your college essay! Hah! And dont think its minimum wage just the other day, I was talking with Matt in the admissions office about which new Ferrari hes going to buy.** See, these people get money (cash, bills, dough!) to read YOUR essay about YOU. So why give them anything less? *I think so. Unless you dont write it, anyway. **Im making this up. However, Matt, if it were true that you can afford a Ferrari and are purchasing one, why havent you offered me rides yet? The college essay is your chance to shine; its a lot of work, but its where youre supposed to show people everything youre proud of, and everything youve worked for; if youve worked for things you care about, that should be a whole lot of fun. So procrastinators and re-writers alike (or anybody else still writing a college essay this year), go for it! You have till sometime tomorrow (check Matts post for the details) to get your essays in. Go make em great. Err, disclaimer: Despite being employed by MIT Admissions, I know very little about the college essay and how its evaluated. This is just my take on it. And Kevins. Dont take it as the official word of the admissions office, please; take it as one students blogular ramblings. (Also, good luck in March, everybody!) Have a happy 2010, and stop worrying about college so much go enjoy the rest of your senior year. Thats all, folks. -Cam

The Impact Of Media On Female Athletes - 967 Words
threatening female athleteââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬â¢ (Rowe, 2004:). Females very rarely receive more coverage than males, despite their efforts and achievements being equivalent (Weter and Canni, 2013). This is evident in the sport sections of newspapers as well as other forms of mediated sport. Often only a minute portion, if any, of a newspaper page is utilised for the representation of female athletes. Media personnel attempt to permeate ideologies to wider society through the use of media texts, often legitimising the notion that sports are naturally an activity for males. This is achieved by displaying many images of physically powerful men (George et al, 2001: ) who depict the ideals and values of muscular Christianity. Boyle and Haynes, (2009:122), explain that due to biological differences between men and women that have been socially established, females are very rarely represented showing muscles and being physically powerful. George et al, (2001: ), explain that this organisation of society can be seen throughout history and has been prominent for many years. The Victorian legacy, as explained by Boyle and Haynes (2009:123), where by female physical ability, emotional state and limitations inflicted by society to participate in sport, can still be seen in modern society. Evolution Exam 2 ( Take Home ) Name - 1371 Words
Evolution Exam 2 (Take Home) Name: 1. Mutation is a driving force for the evolution of a species. Describe the 3 main mutations that can occur in a gene, and the impact those mutations will have on protein structure/function. (5 pts) Gene mutations are also known as point mutations and they involve changes in the structure of a gene due to the change in their chemical nature. Examples of three main mutations that occur in a gene are: Insertion- this is the addition of an extra base onto an existing DNA strand. The resulting m-RNA base and the subsequent amino acid alignment are altered and no polypeptide chain is formed since none of the intended amino acid have been linked, the impact will have on protein called Frameshift. Deletion ââ¬â this is the removal of a gene portion on a DNA strand. Swot Analysis of Starbucks Free Essays
Management 303 SWOT Analysis of Starbucks Corporation Section I ââ¬â Organizational History / Mission Statement In 1971, Starbuckââ¬â¢s opened its first location in the touristy Pikes Place Market in Seattle. The Starbucks name is derived from the coffee-loving first mate in the novel, Moby Dick. The logo, a two-tailed mermaid encircled by the stores name, continues with the theme and background of the name. We will write a custom essay sample on Swot Analysis of Starbucks or any similar topic only for you Order Now From the beginning, Starbucks prides themselves on not only providing their customers with high-quality whole bean coffees, but also with providing them with an inviting atmosphere. The mission statement, ââ¬Å"to inspire and nurture the human spirit ââ¬â one person, one cup, and one neighborhood at a timeâ⬠, is seen today in the more than 15,000 locations in more than 150 countries. Section II ââ¬â Strengths and Weaknesses In my opinion, the top two strengths of Starbucks is their strong brand image associated with their high-quality coffee and their committed and strong workforce. Their top two weaknesses in my opinion are their high premium prices and lack of internal focus. Strength 1 ââ¬â Strong Brand Image According to G Serrano, ââ¬Å"The strongest attribute that consumers associate with the Starbucks brand is its being known for specialty/gourmet coffee. Starbucks is a widely-recognized brand. Its top-of-mind recall is high. It is both a household name and a buzzword. â⬠By becoming a household name people go to Starbucks to get the ââ¬Å"Starbucks Experienceâ⬠. This means that Starbucks has made their stores so inviting that people actually get up early in the morning, grab the paper or a good book and drive down to the local Starbucks and basically just chill out. They provide an optional light snack, a good cup of coffee, free Wi-Fi and the comfort of your own home. Being highly recognized for all of the above qualities has contributed in the growth and expansion of their many locations throughout the US and abroad. This is a huge strength in that that being on top of the market share pretty much ensures that no matter what they will continue to stay on top because of their branding and their popularity. Strength 2 ââ¬â Committed and Strong Workforce Not only does the coffee drive customers to Starbucks, but the dedicated employees who care about their jobs and their customers do as well. Starbucks thinks so highly of their employees, they call them ââ¬Å"partnersâ⬠. The partners are the ones who create the atmosphere that makes the customers feel the way they do about Starbucks. As Hammers stated in her ââ¬Å"Workforce Managementâ⬠piece, ââ¬Å"The companyââ¬â¢s rich benefit blend keeps turnover low and employee satisfaction high. And thatââ¬â¢s why itââ¬â¢s the Optimas Award winner for Quality of Life. As business owners and managers, our job is to make sure that our employees or partners, for that matter, are happy and well-trained. When this happens, as it has with Starbucks, it outwardly shows to the clientele and it makes them want to come back time and time again. Weakness 1 ââ¬â High Premium Prices Starbucks is a premium brand that commands premium prices. As competitive pressures increase, the c ompany could be undercut by lower price rivals such as McDonalds or Duncan Donuts. Recession or downturn in the economy, like we are facing now, affects consumer spending. If Starbucks continues to increase prices over the next few years in the face of increasing coffee prices, there could be a downside to their forecast. In this highly competitive market and with less disposable income to spend, consumers turn to lower priced venues and competitors. â⬠Starbucks should look into some sort of cost saving efforts when it comes to the coffee beans that they buy. I know they are known for their premium brands, but with prices on the steady increase something Weakness 2 ââ¬â Lack of Internal Focus Starbucks has grown by leaps and bounds over the past decade or so. They seem to be consumed with growing their market share by increasing the amount of locations they have within the states as well as abroad. Serrano states just this point in saying ââ¬Å"The growth strategy was not really the failing point. In fact, this augured well for the companyââ¬â¢s bottom line. What the companyââ¬â¢s executives failed to see was the fact that if it wanted to saturate the market, its product and service offerings were not really meeting the characteristics of the market. That is why the market perceived Starbucks as merely concerned with growth in the number of stores and profits. The wide potential market base did not see Starbucks as concerned with their needs. â⬠Starbucks goes through a lot of effort to get the opinions of their partners and their clients. They even have a board of people who read the queries on a monthly basis to see where improvements can be made. Since they are putting in all the effort, they need to follow through and start listening to the very people that give them their profits. Expanding will do no good if you donââ¬â¢t have any customers. The more they neglect what their partners and customers are saying, the more they are going to lose touch. Section III ââ¬â Opportunities and Strengths In my opinion, the two biggest opportunities for Starbucks are increasing their CRM and database marketing and expanding into new product lines. Strength 1 ââ¬â Increasing CRM and Database Marketing One of the greatest opportunities for Starbucks is to increase their CRM and Database Marketing. At the moment Starbucks just asks you what you want, you pay for it, they make your drink and you are on your way. In order to better serve their clients and give back to them, they could come up with some type of rewards program. Many large retailers and food chains have already begun these programs. This would help them stay in touch with their clients by sending them emails of upcoming events, new drinks and new offers. They could also attach a rewards program for the customers who have a daily addiction to their drinks. This basically becomes a win-win situation for not only Starbucks but for their customers as well. Strength 2 ââ¬â Expanding Product Lines and Services We all know that Starbucks has the best selection of coffees around. Unfortunately, that is all they do. I think one of the greatest opportunities for them would be for them to expand their food line to go along with their drinks. Seeing that they are open all day long and into the night, they could benefit greatly by developing a larger lunch line. They currently have small salads and finger sandwiches at some of their locations. By increasing their menu they could also increase their profits. This would help give them a competitive advantage of other cafes along the same lines as them. How to cite Swot Analysis of Starbucks, Papers

Omnitel Pronto Italia Essay Example
Omnitel Pronto Italia Paper Omnitel Pronto Italia Case Analysis Introduction Omnitel is a telecom company based in Italy, which had purchased the GSM license on Dec 1994. In a country where mobile phones are considered as a status symbol, Omnitel focuses on providing superior customer service and therby reducing churn rates. The company has a marketshare of 4% and is capable of giving Telecom Italia Mobile (TIM), the market leader, a close run for their money. The vision of Omnitel is to position cellular phone in a manner akin to wristwatch, which is personal and indispensable. Push Strategy by the monopoly market Leader TIM Vs Pull strategy of the new comer Omnitel: Telecom Italia with a 97% share of the 7. 5% market penetration rate in Italy had a sole aim of maintaining their cash flows. Hence apart from a high priced talk plans (relative to European counterparts) in response to the new competitor, TIM decided to offer incentive to the dealers. TIM was also responsible partly to the Italian customer perception that mobile phones more of a status symbol than a necessity. Omnitel, after paying a price of GSM acquisition in 1994 had no intention of entering a price war with the market leader. Though this strategy helped to gain customer satisfaction and lower churn rate (12. 5% Vs 22% of TIM) it did not result in sales volume. Hence there was a proposal of new campaign called Libero by its Marketing Director. Libero ââ¬Å"Liberoâ⬠a unique plan proposed by Bona keeping in mind the current market and usage of the cellular phone. Libero plan was structured to compete with TIM, the leaders with high market share. It revolutionized the approach from the telecom company as it offered the plan without monthly fee. Libero plan has customized call rates of Lit. 595 and Lit. 195 during peak and off peak hours respectively. By eliminating the fee Omnitel wanted to increase the customer base as well as call volume. Despite of the fact that Omnitels Libero plan has higher call price compared to TIM, Omnitel was strategically ready to offer a very high quality service to the customers, a strong weakness of TIM. Beside this Omnitel didnââ¬â¢t subsidize the price of their handset as they were aware of the Italian consumer trend and willingness to pay. With the high quality service Omnitel wanted to develop brand loyalty which further helped for achieving greater penetration. This increases the demand among customers directly pushing the dealers to sell their phones without any negotiations. Europe Telecom Market Europe Cellular penetration rates are relatively modest, value for money due to combination of reduced cost of the service and improved quality of service, All cellular operators in Europe have moved to digitization the market is a competitive one, hence customer awareness is high which increases the demand in market. Growth prospects are very positive for this market. Country Name Scandinavia Finland Sweden Norway U. K Italy Penetration Subsidies/DC Churn Rate 0% 20% 23. 4% 25% 9. 3% 7. 5% N Y Y Y Y 12% 20. 5% 22% 28% 12. 5% Finland has a very interesting data having the lowest churn rate, without any subsidies/dealer commissions and a good penetration rate as compared to the other countries. Finland was the most sophisticated markets in the Europe. Analysis The plan Libero is a very good option for Omnitel to go ahead. Initially with this plan , total average revenue per customer per month is Lit. 90385 is less than when compared to that of TIMââ¬â¢s average revenue per customer per month is Lit. 93412. Even though there is a deficiency of Lit. 577 in the short run, but later on this plan will help Omnitel to achieve the lowest churn rate and greater penetration as what Finland has achieved with similar plan. Hence even though in the shorter run there will be lesser revenue generated, in the long run due to the increase of the customer base Omnitel will definitely make good profits by leaving TIM way behind. Also another advantage that Omnitel can gain by differentiating call rates for local and international as TIM has fixed calling rate @ Lit. 170/min. Hence segmentation can also offer a very good opportunity for Omnitel to position themselves among market segments.
